Checklist When Choosing the Best-Fit Gym for You
Motivation
has erupted from the deepest chasms of your mind and now you have
become restless to shed sweat and be fit. But here-in lie a pool of
questions: where to join? How to choose? What to do?
Well,
you needn’t worry much. There are some easy advises which will
maintain your motivation level and help you choose the right gym for
you.
The
Distance
An
extra few minutes or an extra mile can totally ruin your motivation
and bar you from progressing. This is so because if the gym isn’t
at an easily accessible distance (easy here means very easy) it will
become problematic or strenuous to commute. Being stuck in traffic
can lead to wastage of time and energy and leave you exhausted by the
time you reach the gym and put you in a worse state while coming back
home. Make sure the gym is at a walkable or a five minute distance
from your home or office. If you prefer going to the gym at the night
time, it is better to join a gym near your office as you can save
energy lost in traffic and driving, include the gym in your schedule
and feel motivated.
Time
Firstly,
decide the time you want to work out i.e. morning, evening or night.
Once decided, inquire about the gym timings. Some gyms start from tea
time and close around nine while some start a little late and are
open till late hours. Similarly, morning times can vary and some
timing might clash with your office/college routine. Also, make sure
if the gym functions on weekends and public holidays. You mightn’t
want to skip workout on holidays yet you’d have to if the gym is
shut.
Hygiene
There
is no gain if you work out in a gym which aims at improving your
fitness levels yet being unhygienic leaves you unhealthy. A clean
environment must be the utmost priority.
Trainer
Certification
Most
gyms hire unqualified or uncertified personal fitness trainers. They
generally have a good idea of basic exercises but might make you do
some exercises that can leave you gravely injured. Hence, be thorough
when it comes to choosing your personal trainer.
Extras
and Demographics
If
you are a lady, check if the gym is a mixed gym or an all women gym.
Select either at your comfort. Look for bonus offers like
physiotherapy et cetera and if they cost you extra or are inclusive.
Quality
and Number of Equipment
Gyms
are hardly unpopulated. Sometimes, you need to wait in cues for your
chance to use equipment. A reason could be shortage of equipment.
Quality of the equipment is another factor which mustn’t be
overlooked. Make sure there are enough free weights for you to work
on your biceps and triceps and also the quality is acceptable. Dearth
of weights will consume your time and demotivate you. And lesser
quality equipment can turn out to be faulty. Hence, take a week or a
month’s trial and be thorough with the equipment and other
services. If they are satisfactory, sign a longer contract.
