Possible Regular Workout for Seniors to Stay Fit

Being a senior means many different things depending on which perspective you look at it from. For some seniors, being one means realizing the kind of life that you’ve spent through the years and realizing the importance you’ve learned along the way. To other seniors being one basically means having more time to focus on yourself and just do the things you’ve always wanted to do. Still for others, being a senior means that you need to take extra caution when it comes to your health because you’re simply not getting any younger anymore.

Here are some regular workouts for seniors like you in order to stay fit and healthy all throughout your lifetime.

Walking / Brisk Walking
If you can no longer run, then walking or brisk walking at least 20 to 30 minutes daily can be a good form exercise. Since walking allows your heart to work double time, it also means that you will be reaching a heart rate that allows you to stay really fit or even lose weight if this is combined with the right diet. Walking is also regarded as an inevitable type of exercise and if you are used to doing this daily, then add a few more minutes just so you wouldn’t experience plateau.

Lifting Lightweights
Another great exercise option for seniors in order to help them stay fit is weight lifting. Make sure though that you limit your weights to just a few pounds because the goal here is just to be fit and to perhaps to tone your muscles but not really to grow them. Also, sticking to lightweights and doing them repetitively is more effective for senior women while carrying weights that are a little heavier and done in fewer repetitions can be better for senior men.

Stretching
Just like walking, stretching is an exercise that is very easy and that you cannot live without. Stretching means actually elongating every single part of your body, specifically your arms, legs, neck and back to make sure that your muscles are working. Stretching also helps strengthen your core and frees you from a tired and painful sensation when you wake up in the morning.

Meditation
Last but not the least, meditating every once in a while is also a great form of exercise for seniors because this can help you stay fit not only physically but also mentally and emotionally.

So stop making excuses for yourself now by saying that seniors like you can and should not workout anymore. The truth is, the older you get, the more important workout become so try these options now and see how it can change yourself for the better.
