5 Easy Ways Of Losing Weight Without Dieting
Soon after Christmas, people will start thinking about New Year’s resolutions. Losing weight is perhaps the most common goal people set themselves each year and it’s no surprise as figures show that a third of Irish women and half of Irish men are overweight.
Dieting can be difficult for many, so what other ways are there of losing those extra pounds?
1. Make Water Your Drink of Choice
By all means, have a glass of orange juice with your breakfast but choose water over other drinks during the day. People usually forget that drinks contain calories too. Coke, Fanta and even apparently healthy options such as smoothies can add inches to your waistline over time as they all contain large amounts of calories.
2. Steer Clear of Fancy Coffees
If you need a coffee to keep you energised during the day, choose conventional coffees such as lattes, Americanos or cappuccinos. That fancy caramel macchiato or the festive eggnog latte you like is full of sugar and calories and is best avoided if you’re trying to lose weight.
3. Keep a Food Diary
Get yourself a little notebook and jot down everything you eat, from your breakfast to that sweet treat you have with tea in the evening. Don’t leave anything out. Studies show that people who keep a record of everything they eat end up eating about 15% less than people who don’t.
4. Walk, Run, Swim, Skip…
Physical activity is essential if you want to lose weight. It doesn’t matter what type of exercise you choose as long as your body is getting a 30-45 minute workout. Try to aim for more than 30 minutes as 30 minutes’ exercise prevents weight gain whereas anything above that promotes weight loss. If you could do this every day, even if it just means walking to work rather than getting the bus, you’re pretty much guaranteed to lose weight.
5. Eat From Smaller Plates and Bowls
This tip is psychological, but it works. If you eat from smaller plates and bowls, your mind will think you’re eating more when in actual fact you’re eating less. You’ll be far more inclined to go for seconds if you eat your food from big plates and bowls as you will think you haven’t really eaten that much at all and can afford to have a bit more.
Weight loss doesn’t have to mean lettuce for breakfast, lunch and dinner. By making a few simple changes to your lifestyle, you can lose weight and improve your health without depriving yourself of foods you enjoy.
